El Chalten to Puerto Madryn

On Friday at 8am we started our 28 hours (!) bus trip from El Chalten
via El Calafate via Rio Gallegos to Puerto Madryn

El Chalten

Look at this parillas! This is getting close to having a whole cow on
the grill :-)

El Chalten

Sitting together with new friends who arrived that day at the
campsite! Eric and Felix from USA (CA, AZ), Walter and Laura from
Buenos Aires, and Germans! Great fun and a great mix of languages!

El Chalten

The weather for our last evening was again beautiful! We decided to
shop again for a great barbeque!

El Chalten

Reto's permanent wish was to see a puma! This is the closest he could
get in fulfilling that dream :-)

El Chalten

Fitz Roy with Cerro Torres and the town El Chalten in front. Great
here is that all hiking can be done starting from the town. No
transport needed.

El Chalten

Another view of Fitz Roy mountain from here

El Chalten

On Thusday we decided to do only a short 1 hr hike starting from the
visitor center

El Chalten

The next morning, our Swiss French friends from Neuchatel continued
their bike trip from Ushuaia to the north of South America

El Chalten

If this is not a great barbeque! In Argentina this is called parillas!

El Chalten

Back at our Camping El Relincho or El Refugio, we decided to do a
barbeque with other Swiss

El Chalten

Great view on Cerro Torre and Glaciar Grande from the hike at Rio Fitz
Roy

El Chalten

Reto having again a sandwich

El Chalten

Having lunch at Rio Fitz Roy shortly prior to reaching Laguna Torre

El Chalten

Again the weather cleared up greatly while hiking, increasing our
intention to make it to the Laguna fast

El Chalten

The next morning we decided to hike towards Laguna Torre, a 3 hrs hike

El Chalten

And somehow we started to like our tent after our camping experience
at Torres del Payne :-)

El Chalten

While the first night we stayed at Hosteria Fitz Roy, we decided to
spend the next days at the campsite next to it. It was such great
weather and so much cheaper to do camping!

El Chalten

We hiked very fast downhill from Laguna de los Tres back to El
Chalten! Together with Anneke we had a refreshing drink in the village.

Fitz Roy

Harrey close-up with Fitz Roy mirrored in his sunglasses

Fitz Roy

Another great view on Fitz Roy with glacier! You must be aware, that
this mountain is usually covered with clouds and the area is mostly
windy! We were lucky with beautiful sunshine and no wind!

Fitz Roy

Reto and Andrea in front of Fitz Roy mountain

Fitz Roy

Los tres en Laguna de los Tres! Great that we made this hike with
Harrey! We deserved this lunch! Sandwich, Media Lunes, Yoghurt and
fruits!

Fitz Roy

Magnificent view on Fitz Roy (3405m) when we arrived at Laguna de los
Tres!

El Chalten

The steep 1 hr hike up to Laguna de los Tres. Andrea and Reto adjusted
their hiking speed a bit :-)

El Chalten

Meeting a Swiss couple after crossing the bridge.

El Chalten

A clear view on Fitz Roy mountain appeared!

El Chalten

While Anneke turned back because of pain in her knee, the three of us
continued. The weather cleared up when we were near Poincenot
campground.
